Nargisi Kofta

Nargisi Kofta is the next level of Kofta curry. Pakistani chefs know the exact culinary art of this dish.. It has a tricky method of cooking. Boiled eggs are encased in beef or mutton mince (mixed with spices)and given oval shape as of egg. This kofta is then fried and added in a delicious curry. It is a tempting and mouth-watering dish.

Recipe

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground lamb or beef
  • 4 boiled eggs
  • 1/2 cup onion, finely chopped
  • 1 tbsp ginger-garlic paste
  • 2 tbsp besan (gram flour)
  • 2 tbsp chopped cilantro
  • 1 tsp red chili powder
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1/2 tsp cumin powder
  • 1/2 tsp coriander powder
  • Salt, to taste
  • Oil, for frying
  • 1 cup yogurt
  • 2 tbsp ghee
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 4 cardamom pods
  • 4 cloves
  • 1/2 cup onion, finely chopped
  • 1 tbsp ginger-garlic paste
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 tsp red chili powder
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1/2 tsp cumin powder
  • 1/2 tsp coriander powder
  • Salt, to taste
  • 1 cup water

Directions

  1. In a bowl, mix together the ground lamb or beef, onion, ginger-garlic paste, besan, cilantro, red chili powder, turmeric powder, cumin powder, coriander powder, and salt until well combined.
  2. Take a small portion of the mixture in your hand and flatten it out. Place a boiled egg in the center and shape the mixture around it to form a meatball. Repeat with the remaining mixture and eggs.
  3. Heat oil in a deep frying pan and fry the meatballs until golden brown. Drain and set aside.
  4. In another pan, heat ghee and add the bay leaves, cinnamon sticks, cardamom pods, and cloves. Saute for a few seconds until fragrant.
  5. Add the onion and ginger-garlic paste and saute until the onion turns translucent.
  6. Add the tomato paste, red chili powder, turmeric powder, cumin powder, coriander powder, and salt. Cook for a few minutes until the spices are fragrant.
  7. Add the yogurt and water and mix well. Bring the mixture to a boil and then reduce the heat to low.
  8. Add the fried meatballs to the gravy and simmer for 10-15 minutes until the gravy thickens and the meatballs are cooked through.
  9. Garnish with chopped cilantro and serve hot with rice or naan. Enjoy your delicious nargisi kofte!
