Pan Pera
Paan pera is a heart shaped sweet. Paan pera tastes like barfi. It is made from condensed milk and sugar. It is a soft, solid milk based dessert. Paan pera is gifted on the occasions of engagement, weddings and chilbirth. It is exclusively made in Karachi.
Recipe
Ingredients
- 1 cup khoya (dried milk)
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar
- 4-5 betel leaves (paan)
- 1/4 cup chopped nuts (almonds, pistachios, cashews)
- 1/4 teaspoon cardamom powder
- A pinch of saffron strands
- Edible silver foil (optional)
Instructions:
- Wash the betel leaves and pat them dry with a paper towel. Remove the stem and chop them finely.
- In a large mixing bowl, crumble the khoya and add powdered sugar, chopped nuts, cardamom powder, and saffron strands. Mix well.
- Add the chopped betel leaves to the mixture and mix well.
- Divide the mixture into equal-sized balls and flatten them slightly with your palms.
- Place the pan peras on a greased plate and refrigerate for 15-20 minutes to set.
- Once set, garnish the pan peras with edible silver foil (if using).
- Serve the pan peras chilled as a dessert or after meals.
