Meethi Tikkiyan
Meethi Tikkiyan are sweet fritters that are made from semolina. Meethi tikkiyan are like cookies and prepared mostly in Muharram. They are very light but rich in taste. Cardamom is the basic aromatic spice used in it which gives it delicious smell and taste.
Recipe
Ingredients
- 2 cups whole wheat flour
- 1/4 cup semolina (sooji)
- 1/4 cup clarified butter (ghee)
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar
- 1/4 cup milk
- 1/4 tsp cardamom powder
- Oil for frying
Directions
- In a mixing bowl, combine the whole wheat flour and semolina.
- Add clarified butter to the mixture and rub it into the flour until it resembles breadcrumbs.
- Add powdered sugar, milk, and cardamom powder to the mixture and knead until it forms a smooth dough.
- Cover the dough and let it rest for 20 minutes.
- Divide the dough into small balls and flatten them into tikkiyan.
- Heat oil in a frying pan over medium heat.
- Fry the tikkiyan in the hot oil until golden brown.
- Remove the tikkiyan from the oil and place them on paper towels to drain any excess oil.
- Serve the meethi tikkiyan warm or at room temperature.
Note: You can garnish the meethi tikkiyan with chopped nuts such as almonds or pistachios. Enjoy your sweet and delicious meethi tikkiyan!
