Tawa piece is a quarter chicken piece that is too hot to handle. It is a desi dish and is native to andrun e Lahore. Tawa means griddle and the chicken piece is cooked on the griddle with all the necessary spices. Red chillies and green chiilies are the main ingredients that add flavours to the dish. People who love spicy foods should try this dish. It is served with mint raita and romali roti.



  • 1 kg boneless beef or chicken, cut into small pieces
  • 1 cup yogurt
  • 2 tablespoons ginger paste
  • 2 tablespoons garlic paste
  • 1 tablespoon red chili powder
  • 1 tablespoon coriander powder
  • 1 tablespoon cumin powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • Salt, to taste
  • 1/2 cup oil
  • 1 onion, sliced
  • 2 tomatoes, chopped
  • 2 green chilies, chopped
  • Fresh coriander leaves, chopped
  • Naan bread, for serving


  1. In a mixing bowl, whisk the yogurt until smooth. Add ginger paste, garlic paste, red chili powder, coriander powder, cumin powder, turmeric powder, and salt. Mix well.
  2. Add the beef or chicken pieces to the marinade and coat them well. Cover the bowl and let it marinate for at least 2 hours, or overnight for best results.
  3. Heat oil in a large flat tawa or frying pan. Add the marinated meat and cook on high heat until it is browned on all sides.
  4. Add the sliced onion and chopped tomatoes to the pan. Cook until the vegetables are soft and the meat is fully cooked.
  5. Add chopped green chilies and fresh coriander leaves to the pan. Mix well.
  6. Serve the Lahori Tawa Piece hot with naan bread and your favorite spicy chutneys. Enjoy the delicious and spicy flavors of this Pakistani street food!
