Bun sheermal is also known as morabba roti or fruit bun. It is a sweetened bun and can be eaten with butter, jam or tea. It is easily available in all the bakeries of Pakistan. It is a light nashta to grab in the morning.
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 tsp active dry yeast
1/4 cup warm milk
1/4 cup sugar
1/4 cup ghee, melted
1/4 cup yogurt
1/4 tsp salt
1 egg, beaten
Saffron strands, for garnish
In a small bowl, mix the yeast, warm milk, and a tablespoon of sugar. Stir well and let it sit for 10 minutes until the mixture is frothy.
In a large mixing bowl, add the flour, sugar, and salt. Mix well.
Add the ghee, yogurt, and beaten egg to the flour mixture. Mix well until it forms a smooth dough.
Knead the dough for 5-7 minutes until it becomes soft and pliable.
Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a damp cloth, and let it rest for 1-2 hours until it doubles in size.
Preheat your oven to 375°F. Grease a baking sheet and set it aside.
Once the dough has risen, divide it into small balls of equal size. Roll each ball into a flat, round shape.
Use a sharp knife to make diagonal cuts on the dough, making sure not to cut all the way through.
Brush the dough with melted ghee and sprinkle with saffron strands.
Place the bread on the greased baking sheet and bake for 12-15 minutes or until it is golden brown and cooked through.
Remove from the oven and brush with more melted ghee.
Your delicious Bun Sheermaal is now ready to serve. Enjoy it warm with your favorite cup of tea or coffee.
